Mohawk West Canal Retrofitting Works

City of Brantford

WSP

$2.3M

July 2024 - December 2024

This project involved comprehensive dredging and rehabilitation of an existing canal system. To facilitate sediment removal, access roads were constructed throughout the canal to establish a stable working platform and ensure safe equipment operation. The canal was drained in controlled sections to allow for the removal of accumulated sediment and debris. Clay weirs were constructed to manage water flow and support structural stability during the work.

Following sediment removal, all canal banks were regraded to restore proper slope and drainage. An armourstone retaining wall was installed to reinforce key areas and prevent future erosion. Restoration efforts included the installation of new pathways and gates, seeding of the site, and planting of native shrubs and vegetation to support long-term ecological health and site aesthetics
